Untranslated Sacrifices

Sometimes we forget what we already have,

lost in the quiet habit of self-doubt,

forgetting to appreciate what surrounds us—

while someone else, without it,

knows its value deeply.

Value is never the same for everyone.

For some, it is family.

A mother’s love.

Unseen contributions.

For others, it is the presence of people

who make life feel lighter—

colouring our days,

pushing us gently past worry

with humour, sarcasm, and care.

And then there are those

who stand at the borders,

protecting us without hesitation,

because for them, we all are family.

They find peace in our peaceful sleep,

even when comfort rarely visits them.

Some sacrifices

cannot be translated into words.

Our heroes deserve reverence,

as do our freedom fighters—

because of whom we breathe today

a life of dignity,

while many still struggle

under conflict, control, and unrest.

We may never reach their level,

yet we must not forget their contribution.

Dreaming is not wrong—

we are surrounded by our own ambitions—

but giving back,

in whatever way we can,

matters.

By expressing.

By initiating.

By offering what we have.

Because even small drops

make the ocean rich and evergreen.

Like a mother’s love—

protecting us through every season,

labouring quietly through our struggles,

asking for nothing in return.

Learn to value what feels basic to us,

yet remains a dream for someone else.

Because when we lose someone,

we regret the words left unspoken,

the moments we didn’t choose.

Time never waits for understanding.

Some things are priceless—

whether we acknowledge them or not.

They shape us.

They protect us.

They remain,

in every shade of life.

  2. This poem is beautifully written, it makes you touch ground while you are trying to fly higher coz that's also important. I loved it when you said learn to value the basic because that's what makes you something that you are today. Without that we might not have been in shape ever. It's really beautifully penned. Keep writing poetess Chhaya, we appreciate you a lot ๐Ÿค—❤❤๐Ÿค—
